Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is Enigmatology?
Enigmatology is the name given to the art of studying puzzles, and it also happens to be the name of our unique fun, family friendly puzzle experience in Stockton-on-Tees. At Enigmatology we have created a number of themed puzzle rooms each featuring a different setting and mystery to solve. You and your friends will need to use all your powers of observation and deduction to uncover the mystery and complete your quest successfully within the time limit.
You can think of it as a cross between the types of puzzles in popular TV series such as the Crystal maze or Treasure hunt and the board game Cluedo, the main difference is you take part directly instead of sitting watching a screen! If you enjoy any of these you are sure to have a great time!
2. How do I take part?
Choose the experience that you would like to take part in and visit our booking page, here you will be able to see what slots are available and book your very own mystery slot at a time that’s convenient for you. Then just turn up at our premises in Stockton-On-Tees, and we will give you a brief introduction to the escape room before letting you loose to explore the mysterious puzzles within.
3. Is it dangerous?
No absolutely not! The emphasis is around puzzle solving and the uncovering the answer to a mystery. Most puzzles involve little to no physical exertion and are configured to challenge your little grey cells through the power of deduction, logical thinking and discovery.
4. How many people can take part?
Each of our escape rooms can accommodate between 2 and 5 players we recommend that your team contains 3 – 5 people for the best experience but less is also fine. We tend to find that the larger the team the more chance you have of solving the mystery as different people tend to excel at different types of puzzles.
5. Is there an age limit?
Whilst we don’t have an age limit generally a good rule of thumb is players should be 10 years and over. This is due to the fact the majority of puzzles are aimed at an older audience and players beneath this age would likely find the challenge frustrating. All players under 16 must be accompanied by an adult in the escape room when playing the game.
6. How long does a session last?
Your session lasts 1 hour with a 15 minute briefing session before you start, please arrive promptly but not before your allotted time slot. As this is a live event if you arrive late unfortunately we will have to deduct the time you have available in the room in order to accommodate other players. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late we may have to cancel your booking as there will not be sufficient time to explain the game rules and complete the puzzles.
7. What type of people is the game suited to?
In short all types! Players of all backgrounds and ages have successfully completed the adventures and as the experience is team based sometimes it helps to have a cross section of team members as everyone approaches the puzzles in different ways.
8. I don’t like being locked in a room, can I still play?
Absolutely! Our games do not feature you being locked inside a room, they are based around a mystery story so if you don’t like the idea of being locked in don’t worry at all.
9. How much does it cost to play?
The cost to play each escape room is based upon the number of players taking part, details can be found on our booking page.
10. Do I need to wear anything in particular?
No not really although some of the rooms have uneven floors as they are themed to match the mystery so please don’t wear high heels. Something comfortable and flat soled is best. Also, glasses are essential if required for reading.
11. I am pregnant, can I still play?
Yes. There are no physically strenuous puzzles, however please be aware that there is a flight of stairs to two of the rooms and a further, steep flight of stairs to The Secret of Crick Hollow.
